Edwards and the Undecided Battle for Votes

9:33 pm February 5th, 2008 by witz · No Comments

Frantic negotiations are underway between the Edwards campaign and the undecided voters, both of whom did not meet the 15% level to move on to the state level. Should Edwards gain enough votes, they can re-caucus at the state level, whereas the undecided cannot and will lose their shot at a delegate.

“At the national convention, those for Obama and Clinton will be lost in the crowd,” said Lori Smith, Sub-Caucus Chair for the undecided and chair of the 50th precinct in her speech immediately following initial results. “We will give Idaho a voice.”

When asked about the benefits to remaining undecided, she joked that “one of the candidates may take a picture on top of a tank.”

Kristy Johnson, Sub-Caucus Chair for the Edwards campaign, admitted that their night had gone “very poorly.” In her speech, she appealed for support of a campaign that “spoke for one America” and spotlighted the needs of the 37 million Americans below the poverty line. Immediately following the first round of speeches, Johnson began pitching their need of 51 more votes to the crowd.
