Obama wins on the coast, Clinton flees to the south

As Barack Obama swept the so-called “Potomac Primaries” - contests in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. - Hillary Clinton brushed off the losses today and focused on the future. The future means March 4, to be exact, and the key states on her radar are Ohio and Texas.

Clinton spoke to a crowd of supporters today at the University of Texas at El Paso basketball arena, and with three weeks until the Texas primary, it’s likely she’ll soon be spending a lot more time in the Lone Star state.

Clinton herself revealed the importance of the upcoming contests:

She made it clear that the March 4 primaries in Ohio and Texas were crucial milestones in her campaign.

“Ohio is really going to count in determining who our Democratic nominee is going to be,” she told WCPO in Cincinnati. She reminded Texans that her first job in politics was for the Democratic Party in 1972 registering Hispanic voters in South Texas. “I still have friends from those experiences,” she said.

Can Clinton halt Obama’s momentum and make a comeback March 4? Or will her money troubles, second-place delegate status and recent staff shakeups cause the campaign to flounder completely? Stay tuned.
