Caucus day was really great. We all got there very early and although Dana (the area caucus coordinator) went to a different caucus without telling me, making me very, very angry for the first hour but at least her replacement let us do whatever we wanted. We stole a table and some chairs for ourselves and set up right in the middle of all the action in the lunch room of the elementary school in Magnolia. Our setup was great; we all had computers, fast internet and people all around us to talk to. That is one of my favorite parts of being a journalist, talking to people on the spot. I really like talking to people because I’m outgoing and when you’re happy and outgoing it’s reflected right back at you by the person you’re talking to. Celia was really into talking to the governor which was fine with me; I manned the table watching all of our stuff because that really isn’t my thing anyway. I would rather talk to a dozen ordinary people than one governor.
Saturday turned out great but I credit a lot of that to the rest of my team. I love my team, we have a great relationship, we’re all getting to be friends and we accomplish so much together that it’s getting hard to separate out our specific jobs. They were all really supportive of me and the decisions I was making for Saturday.
I loved seeing the politically active young people because I can identify with them. I realize that that was who I was tending to interview during the caucus. Ultimately I ended up meeting a lot of different people, even some who weren’t citizens and were coming to watch just like I was.
