With results starting to come in from Hawaii, it looks like Obama is going to sweep all of Tuesday’s contests, giving him bragging rights for ten wins in a row. It seems Obama has definitely acheived front runner status despite demographic polling information that was thought to favor Clinton among certain segments of the population, namely white women and working class voters.
Predictions for high voter turnout in WI were confirmed despite the bitter weather, with early voting totals showing that nearly 1.2 million total votes had been cast Tuesday. Robust turnout has been reported in the Hawaii caucuses as well.
While Obama is leading Clinton in the Washington primary, he only has a slight lead, about 2% and results will continue to trickle in from provisional and absentee ballots. No delegates were at stake for Democrats in WA.
But Wisconsin and Hawaii appear to both be blowout contests with Obama leading Clinton nearly 18% in WI and currently 54% in Hawaii, although only 7% of precincts have reported there. 92 delegates are at stake in WI and 20 in HI.
Polling places were slow around King County on Tuesday and the Secretary of State’s office reports voter turnout in King County at only about 15% most likely due to the overwhelmingly high turnout at the caucuses on the 9th of Feb, and the fact that so many people vote-by-mail in WA.
Tuesday was also a blowout on the Republican side with McCain taking 49% of the vote in WA with more than half of the precincts reporting.
Coming in second for WA Republicans is “Other” with 22.5%, and finally Huckabee trailing in third place with 21% of the vote.
