With the number of possible nominees winding down, Green Party’s Ralf Nader announced this morning his entry into the presidential race.
After former Sen. John Edwards suspended his campaign a little over two weeks ago, Nader announced his formation of a presidential exploratory committee to gauge the funds and interest in him joining the 2008 race.
This morning on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Nader announced his candidacy saying, “A Jeffersonian revolution is needed in this country.”
According to CNN, “Nader’s entry into the race did not come as a surprise to political watchers.”
Nader has been blamed by many Democrats as the reason Gov. G.W. Bush won the 2000 Election.
That election was so close that a small proportion of those votes - particularly in the key state of
Mr. Nader denied he was seeking to be a spoiler candidate - and accused the main parties of “political bigotry”.
“You take that framework of people feeling locked out, shut out, marginalized and disrespected,” he said. “You go from
Nader jumping into the race is unlikely to change much for Sen. McCain on his road to the GOP nomination; however with the Democratic nomination yet to be secured, Nader’s move could affect the Democrats ability to rally together for the big election in November.
