Ralph Nader Is In…Again

12:56 pm February 24th, 2008 by lauram · No Comments

Ralph Nader entered the presidential race as an independent today, he announced his run on NBC’s “Meet The Press.” After the show he spoke to reporters, and according to CNN, Nader said:

From CNN: “In the last few years, big money and the closing down of Washington against citizen groups prevent us from trying to improve our country. And I want everybody to have the right and opportunity to improve their country.”

Where does Nader stand? According to his website, www.votenader.org, he is the only one to, “support solar energy, take nuclear energy off the table, cut the military budget, reverse U.S. middle east policy, and crackdown on corporate crime and corporate welfare.”

The last time Nader, who is 73, made a run for the White House was in 2004, and he had little impact on voters. However, in the 2000 election when Florida became the deciding state between Gore and Bush, Nader received 1.6 percent of the vote there, and many democrats believed Nader cost Al Gore the nomination. When Tim Russert, host of Meet The Press, asked Nader about this, Nader said:

From the New York Times: “Let’s get over it and try to have a diverse, multiple votes, multiple choice ballot like they do in Europe.”

Nader will not make much of an impact in this race. Record numbers of voters are turning out in this primary, and democratic voters are just too “fired up” about their candidates. Yes, there are those that are unhappy with their republican nominee, and I think those voters support Ron Paul. I predict Nader will get less votes than he did in 2004, which was 0.3 percent, for 34 states.
