And the plot thickens

9:49 pm March 4th, 2008 by Celiah · No Comments

Clinton is expected to win Ohio and Rhode Island, big wins for her that mean the race is still on.

Texas, on the other hand, is too close to call and Obama came away with the win in Vermont.

But with these big wins for Clinton, Obama remains in the lead with the total number of delegate counts. Obama has 1,419 delegates and Clinton is trailing close behind with 1,333, according to CNN.com

On the Republican side, John McCain has secured his nomination for the Republican nomination, crossing the needed 1,191 delegates and ending up with 1,205.

With 2,025 delegates needed to secure the Democratic nomination, and neither candidate coming close to that number yet, Clinton and Obama will continue to duke it out.

But what does today mean for November?

Historically, Ohio has been a major player in the general elections and is the notorious “swing state,” and no candidate can be certain of a national win without the win in Ohio. http://www.startribune.com/politics/16200487.html

Ohio is the seventh biggest state in the nation and has 20 electoral votes for November.

And on the topic of history, with the Republican nominee secured, the race only gets harder for the Democrats.

The party who has chosen the nominee first, in the past, has usually come away with the win. While the other party continues to fight with one another, the secure nominee, in this case McCain, begins to attack the democrats.

Now McCain has the task of uniting his party and picking a running mate that will put him on good terms with the more conservative members of his party, who have expressed some concerns with his “moderate” values.

“My friends, now we begin the most important part of our campaign,” he told supporters Dallas. “We must make a respectful, determined and convincing case to the American people that my election as president … is in the best interest of the country we love,” according to CTV.ca

And while the plot thickens we still wait for the results in Texas to finalize the night.
