The negative campaigning by Sen. Clinton is apparently working. The Democratic senator from New York provided numerous shots at Sen. Obama in the days leading up to this second Super Tuesday. First was the “3 AM” phone call ad and then the criticism about his CEA speaking with the Canadian consulate.
Ohio would be a very important win for Sen. Clinton and she is currently beating up on Sen. Obama in the Buckeye State. Many analysts disagreed with her negative approach but it seems to be paying major dividends for her campaign.
Sen. Obama’s view on the smear tactics:
“I don’t think we’ve had difficulty countering them. That’s why we won 11 contests straight. Sen. Clinton’s has been making this argument since the beginning of this campaign and the American people, I think, have recognized that what we need in national security is judgment, a judgment that Senator Clinton and John McCain both failed to show.”
The negative attacks are simply a strategy employed by Sen. Clinton’s campaign. A strategy that seems to be working. Sen. Obama was not fazed by these attempts and believes that the American people will see that true politics trump smear tactics.
Sen. Clinton looks to capitalize on this apparent victory in Ohio with another win in Texas. Sen. Obama meanwhile attempts to put this roadblock behind him and continue his march toward the White House. The road will not be easy for either Democratic candidate as the negative attacks by Sen. Clinton are expected to continue.
