Voter Turnout Expected To Grow Throughout The Day At UT

2:46 pm March 4th, 2008 by Devon · 1 Comment

Brandon Chicotsky of the UT Obama campaign office has told me by phone that about 200 students voted this morning at the Jester Hall polling site on campus.

He said he expects that number to double this afternoon and triple this evening because “students are less apt to participate in civic activities in the morning.”

Chicotsky told me about 8,000 UT students participated in early voting between Feb. 19 and Feb. 29.  He also said some polling sites in East Austin had 30-40 minute wait times to vote this morning.

Meanwhile, the UT Obama office has been buzzing with last-minute activity.  Volunteers have been “working the Internet, phone-banking nonstop” and distributing voting information on and around campus, Chicotsky said.

Four SeattlePoliticore reporters and I just arrived in San Antonio - we’ll be visiting various polling sites and attending an Obama rally on Navarro St. later this evening.  Only time and Texas voters will tell whether it will be a rally celebrating victory or mourning defeat.
