On the Road in Pennsylvania: History in Making

PITTSBURGH - The state of Pennsylvania hasn’t had a pivotal primary since Jimmy Carter’s successful candidacy in 1976. Now, it’s that time again. Voters head to the polls on Tuesday, and the candidates are campaigning hard. We have seen Hillary Clinton and  Barack Obama bowling, taking shots of whiskey, and twisting words. But, who will win over the most voters? We shall soon find out whether it is “solutions,” or “change. ”

I just arrived here in Pittsburgh, the second largest city in the state, with my colleague, Liz Burlingame. For the next five days, we will head across the state to talk with Hillraisers and Obama believers. What do people think about the candidates, do they care about “bittergate,” who are they voting for and why? These are only a few of the many questions at hand.

Yes, this could be the end of the battle. Clinton, who is still ahead in the polls here in the state, needs a big win. She trails Obama by 146 total delegates. There are 158 delegates up for grabs in PA. Democratic National Committee chair Howard Dean even stepped out today to urge super delegates to make thier decision — now. So, the end may be nearing, but for the next four days, it is history in the making for Pennsylvania.
