“Wow, wow, wow,” said Senator Barack Obama as he stepped on stage to address a crowd of 75,000 at a waterfront park in Portland, Oregon today. I knew he would draw a big crowd in Portland, but this is more than I guessed, and it’s only the primary. This is clearly the movement that Oregon people believe in.
Obama will win the primary in Oregon. And considering the media has named him the Democratic nominee, it will be interesting to see what he has to say on election night, which is Tuesday. According to a Wall Street Journal article, Obama will not claim victory Tuesday. However Obama did have this to say about Senator Hillary Clinton:
“She has been a formidable candidate, smart and tough and determined,” he said as some in the crowd applauded politely. “She has worked as hard as she can. She has run an extraordinary campaign.”-Senator Barack Obama
Notice the word choice, “Has been,” he said. He’s talking about her in the past tense.
The Kentucky primary is also on Tuesday, and Clinton is favored to win. After OR and KY is Puerto Rico, which is June 1st. And an end to this historic primary is in sight, when voters in Montana and South Dakota head to the polls on June 3rd.
From the Wall Street Journal: “We think we will have a majority of pledged delegates at that point and that’s a pretty significant mark,” Obama told reporters on Sunday. Obama said, “it doesn’t mean we declare victory because I won’t be the nominee until we have enough, a combination of both pledged delegates and superdelegates to hit the mark.” He added: “But what it does mean is that voters have given us the majority of delegates that they can assign. And that is obviously what this primary and caucus process is about.”
