Clinton wins Kentucky

According to CNN, Hillary Clinton will win today’s Kentucky primary by a wide margin, no doubt bolstering her argument that she has received more votes for the Democratic presidential nomination. With 71% of precincts reporting, the Kentucky numbers stand at 65% of the vote and 22 delegates for Clinton, and 31% of the vote and 11 delegates for Obama. 51 delegates are at stake in Kentucky’s primary.

However

The results come as Obama is poised to take a majority of the pledged delegates after voters weigh in Tuesday in Kentucky and Oregon.

A majority of Democrats in both states think Obama will be the party’s nominee, according to exit polls.

Obama’s campaign sees the two contests as a milestone in the protracted fight with Clinton, who continues to campaign hard.

“This is a very important threshold today, having the majority of pledged delegates. … We’re excited about it, but it doesn’t mean it’s the end,” said Tom Daschle, former Senate majority leader and Obama’s campaign co-chairman. Daschle called the pledged delegates “the core of the convention.”

“To say that we have the majority of the core of the delegates that are going to be making the decisions at the convention and selecting our nominee, that’s a critical milestone,” he said.

CNN’s poll-of-polls has indicated that Obama leads Clinton in Oregon by 10 points. Oregon’s primary is mail-in only, with ballots due by 8:00 p.m., and 52 pledged delegates are up for grabs. Results are not available for Oregon yet.

Obama will reportedly be in Iowa tonight - the scene of his first big caucus win - to announce what he hopes will be the majority of pledged delegates after today’s contests. Meanwhile, Clinton’s camp doesn’t particularly like that plan:

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s camp called the plans for the Des Moines rally arrogant and presumptuous.

“Premature victory laps and false declarations of victory are unwarranted,” Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said Monday.

It seems that this race is getting more and more heated, especially today. When will the candidates finally agree on “the math”?
