Kucinich presents articles of impeachment against Bush

I could start the day off by writing about Barack Obama’s ongoing VP search or how the presumptive Democratic nominee continues to attack Sen. John McCain about the economy and President George W. Bush’s failed policies. However, I’ve written about both of those things before, and you can easily find those news stories all over the Web.

What will be harder for you to find, on the other hand, is what former presidential candidate Rep. Dennis Kucinich said Monday on the floor of Congress. He introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush. He spoke for four hours and 40 minutes. Hardly any major news outlets reported a single word about it.

Let’s review: a former presidential candidate accused the President and his administration of 35 high crimes and misdemeanors on the floor of the House of Representatives, and nobody said a word about it. Not CNN. Not MSNBC. Certainly not FOX News. If I hadn’t read Daily Kos, I probably still wouldn’t know about it.

Something is very, very wrong.

Something is wrong when the media is more concerned about the current presidential race than a member of Congress recording 35 articles of impeachment into the Congressional Record. Something is very wrong when I can find lengthy discussions, liveblogging, etc. of the event on citizen-run sites like Daily Kos and The Huffington Post, yet a search of “Kucinich” on CNN.com reveals nothing related to it.

Something is very wrong when people do not take Kucinich and his accusations seriously because impeachment would be an inconvenient affair:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly said she opposes trying to remove the Republican president who leaves office next January because such an attempt would be divisive and most likely unsuccessful.

Former President Bill Clinton was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice in connection with the Paula Jones lawsuit and Monica Lewinsky scandal. Kucinich has accused President Bush of launching a war under false pretenses and spying on American citizens, among others. If Congress thought impeaching Bill Clinton was worth the time and trouble, then certainly bringing President Bush to justice for his offenses is worth it as well.

I think Congress and the Speaker of the House should be more concerned with justice than what could be “divisive” and “unsuccessful.” Just because something is potentially divisive and unsuccessful doesn’t mean it is not the right thing to do.

Joseph A. Palermo wrote on The Huffington Post:

People will scream about how impeachment might backfire on the election of 2008. But that was never the issue. The president is guilty of grave crimes against the republic and should be held accountable. He does not have to be found guilty in a court of law; impeachment has a different standard. Bush has committed crimes against the nation. There are 4,100 dead Americans and 500,000 to 1 million dead Iraqis as a result of his lies and deceit. The Scott McClellan book just drives home everything the Intelligence Committee uncovered. It is time for the truth! If Bush can keep the prospect of attacking Iran “on the table,” then the Congress should keep impeachment on the table too.

Why doesn’t anybody listen? Why doesn’t anybody report? And even if they do report - like here, on CBS News - they simply report that Kucinich introduced articles of impeachment and they will likely go nowhere. It seems that if you weren’t watching C-SPAN, you don’t get to hear about what Kucinich said. I haven’t been able to find a transcript yet, although you can read the transcript of Kucinich’s unsuccessful articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney, circa April 2007, here.

Something is wrong.

Nancy Pelosi, herself, should be ousted from her leadership position for not fulfilling her constitutional duty to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution by starting impeachment hearings on the most corrupt presidential administration in history. Rumors have been floating that Pelosi doesn’t want to impeach, because she, herself, might be implicated in some of the wrongdoings by the administration, such as her doing nothing after being informed about Bush’s illegal warrantless domestic wiretapping. She and her lieutenants knew about a lot of other wrongdoings and disgraces to the national honor as they acquiesced.

As for the Corporate Mainstream News Media not reporting on Kucinich’s articles of impeachment, that is just par for the course. You see, they ignored, by and large, his candidacy for the presidency, too, as they ignored Ron Paul and anybody else who would really change things.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the CMNM’s motives for under-reporting.
