FRANKFORT — We walked into Jack and Jill on a whim.
Laura, Meg and I had just arrived in Indiana, and had decided that the first order of business would be to drive out to Clinton County and Frankfort in order to find, if possible, some Democrats in a rural part of the state.
It was a […]

Clinton K.O.’d?
May 7th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Hillary Clinton has likened herself to Rocky - she’s a fighter. She never gives up. She’s even signed boxing gloves for supporters.
But has Barack Obama finally knocked her out?
The numbers from Indiana and North Carolina suggest that yes, he has. Sure, Clinton won Indiana, but earning 51% of the vote to Obama’s […]

It’s darn close in Indiana
May 6th, 2008 · No Comments
With Lake County finally reporting in, it looks like Clinton gets 50.9 percent and Obama gets 49.1. The only county left to report is tiny Union in eastern Indiana, but it’s unlikely to change the outcome of the contest much. One could say that this is a two-percent squeaker, and perhaps closer than some thought.

Obama projected to win North Carolina
May 6th, 2008 · No Comments
CNN is projecting that Barack Obama will win North Carolina tonight, and their early numbers are showing… well, kind of a landslide.
With only 15% of precincts reporting, CNN shows Obama with 63% of the vote to Clinton’s 35%.
They’re saying it’s still “too early” to call Indiana, although CBS has projected Clinton will win the state.
CNN’s […]

On the Road in Indiana: Lunch break in Gary

GARY-As I arrived in Gary, Indiana today, I passed through several residential neighborhoods and noticed many Obama signs. And many more Obama signs. Actually, the most I have seen in the state so far.
It’s a beautiful sunny day today, people are out tending their lawns, and people are also working very hard. It was around […]
On the road in Indiana: At Dunkin Donuts
May 5th, 2008 · No Comments
MERRILLVILLE–I’m at a Dunkin Donuts, around the corner from where Hillary Clinton is due to speak.
“Did you see that, there’s a big crowd at the firehouse, it’s packed. I saw a limo,” said Glen Sjodin to two older men sitting in the corner sipping coffee, as he walked in.
One looked up from his crossword puzzle, and said, […]

HAUVILLE, IND. — The floor shook. Hands clapped. Heads looked to the sky. Voices belted in harmony as girls’ beaded hair ties knocked against the pews like plastic marbles. All males — from age two and up — were dressed in full suits, and women in dresses and […]

GAS CITY- After feeling a bit weary while driving down the highway en route to Indianapolis from Fort Wayne, I saw a sign that made me feel at home. Starbucks. What’s a weary Seattlelite to do?
Well, pull over of course.
I grabbed a coffee at the Gas City Starbucks located in Grant County Sunday evening. I […]

In the bright sunshine of the early afternoon, a group of college-aged kids discussed the merits of voting for Sen. Barack Obama, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. John McCain. The general consensus of the lively crowd was that Obama was the best choice, […]
